They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. I say it also calls for some creative thinking.
We haven't been able to get home to Toronto ever since Atlas was born, right before the start of the pandemic. This means we went the first 21 months of her life with her barely spending any time with her grandparents. These were bonds that we were determined to strengthen!
Or at least that's what we told them when we sent them a book and instructed them to read it to Atlas over a video call.
In reality, Hanna and I stealthily wrote and illustrated a new book – complete with professional printing, believable author name, and totally legit publishing house – so they could read a very specific story to Atlas.
Here's how the calls went...
Pandemic or not, 3000 miles apart or not, some moments deserve some special treatment. We eagerly anticipate the day when we can celebrate amongst the physical presence of our loved ones again, but til then, this felt like the best way to share our excitement.
We think Atlas understands what's happening. I guess we'll know for sure, soon.
And of course, here's the book, entitled "Soon!", in its entirety for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!
